About Jennifer

JEN YATES, LMFT, CIMHP

I want therapy to feel like a conversation with someone who is actually paying attention.

I’m warm, curious, direct when it’s useful, and pretty involved in the room. I’ll ask questions, tell you what I’m noticing, and help us make connections between what’s happening now and the patterns that have been around much longer.

I also use humor. Not because the hard things aren’t hard, but because you’re still a whole person while we’re talking about them. Sometimes we’ll sit with something heavy. Sometimes something will be genuinely funny. There’s room for both.

I’ve been doing this long enough to know that people rarely fit neatly into categories. I’m much more interested in getting to know the person sitting across from me- what matters to you, what you’ve lived through, what you’re carrying, and what you want this part of your life to feel like.

I’ve been doing this for a long time.

I’ve been a therapist for almost 30 years and a clinical supervisor for 15, working across community mental health and private practice with adults, adolescents, families, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.

I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, and my background includes extensive work with trauma, anxiety, relationships, and high-acuity children and families. My training includes trauma-informed and culturally responsive care, CBT, TF-CBT, Somatic Therapy, EFT, mindfulness, and integrative mind-body work. I’m also a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional (CIMHP).

That depth of experience matters to me. But mostly, it has made me less interested in fitting people neatly into boxes and more interested in understanding what your life actually feels like from the inside.

I care a lot about self-trust.

There are things you can understand intellectually and still find yourself doing anyway. People-pleasing. Over-explaining. Taking responsibility for someone else’s feelings. Ignoring what your body has been telling you because you can come up with seventeen perfectly reasonable arguments against it.

Our work can include practical tools and evidence-based therapy alongside mindfulness, nervous-system awareness, and attention to the mind-body connection.

Nothing has to be more mystical than it is.

I think a lot about peace.

Not being happy all the time. That’s not really the goal.

I mean feeling grounded enough in yourself to recognize your patterns without automatically following them. Knowing what belongs to you and what doesn’t. Trusting your own judgment. Being able to stay connected to yourself even when a relationship, a transition, or life itself gets complicated.

After almost 30 years of doing this work, that still feels much more interesting to me than becoming some perfectly healed version of yourself.

Her Turn grew from a simple idea: women spend an enormous amount of their lives paying attention to everyone else.

Children. Partners. Parents. Work. Relationships. The invisible things that need remembering and tending.

I wanted to create something that turns some of that attention back toward you.

That happens here through individual therapy, and it also happens through the Her Turn community- a therapist-led space for connection, reflection, practical tools, and conversations about identity, relationships, boundaries, emotional wellness, and figuring out what comes next.

Different spaces. Same idea: making a little more room for you.
